THE MISSION
“A return to the essence of the music”
Under the umbrella of Carles & Sofia Music Foundation and in the continuous wish to keep caring about and supporting young musicians, Carles & Sofia International Piano Competition main mission is to discover new artists, with true talent, authenticity, and the ability of moving and inspiring audiences, just like legendary pianists used to do.
Carles & Sofia International Piano Competition aims to find, give support and enlighten the paths of those true artists who will return the essence of the music to the society.
Each year the competition will pay tribute to a legendary pianist, one of Carles & Sofia’s references during their growth as artists: The first edition paid tribute to Artur Rubinstein, the second one was dedicated to legendary pianist Wilhelm Kempff, the third one to oustanding Spanish pianist Alicia de Larrocha, on the 100th Anniversary of her birth (1923-2009).
The fourth edition pays tribute to Claudio Arrau, whom Carles & Sofia met, and listened performing for the last time in 1983, at the age of 80, at the Palau de la Música Catalana, in Barcelona.

THE COMPETITION INCLUDES
2 CATEGORIES
1- PIANO SOLO
2- PIANO 4 HANDS (4 hands in one piano)
Each category is divided in:
A: until 8 year old
B: 9 to 12 year old
C: 13 to 16 year old
EMERGENT: 17 to 21 year old
PROFESSIONAL: 22 and beyond
AMATEUR: Non-professional musicians, 16 and above, without limit.
The age counts as per the deadline of the competition: 30th of June, 2024.
All categories can opt to the
“Best Composer’s Awards”.

RULES SUMMARY
ONLINE COMPETITION / PRESENCIAL AWARDS
Contestants have to submit videos available in YouTube, Vimeo or similar online platforms.
Complete live performance of each piece is to be performed like on regular competition, and video editing or playback are forbidden.
The judgement will be made exclusively upon material received.
Each contestant / duo presents a free repertoire with a maximum length, according to the age category.
DEADLINE: 30th of June, 2024 (11.59PM PST)
