JOAQUÍN SORIANO
Joaquín Soriano began his studies in Valencia with Professor Magenti. He continued with Vlado Perlemuter at the National Conservatory of Paris and later with Alfred Brendel in Vienna. He began his brilliant career after achieving great success in renowned international competitions such as Viotti (Italy), first prize; Jaén (Spain), gold medal; Casella (Naples, Italy), second prize, among others. Since then, he has performed with many of the world’s best orchestras, such as the Israel Philharmonic, National Orchestra of Spain, RAI of Italy, ORTF of France, Gürzenich of Germany, London Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic, Hallé of Manchester, Camerata Laussana, Camerata de Varsovia, and New York Chamber, Mexico, Dallas, Monaco, Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires…
He has given recitals in the main concert halls and in important festivals such as Granada, Santander, Menton, Annecy, Montpellier, Saintes, Kavala, St. Petersburg, Brisbane, etc. In 1978 he founded the Trio of Madrid with P. León (violin) and P. Corostola (cello), a group highly regarded in the Spanish musical field and abroad. After a brilliant tour in Europe, the Trio was invited to make their American debut at the Kennedy Center, where they achieved enormous success. The following artistic engagements took them to other stages in North and South America. This represented the beginning of a growing interest regarding chamber music, which today plays a very important role in musical life around the world.
His recordings include works by Albéniz (Iberia), Granados, Viñes, Falla, the complete works of Schubert-Liszt (Soirées de Viena), Liszt, Chopin, the complete chamber works with piano by Turina, as well as his Symphonic Rhapsody. He has recorded Noches en los Jardines de España and Falla’s Harpsichord Concerto with the English Chamber Orchestra. In 2000 he made a new recording of Noches en los Jardines de España with Frübeck de Burgos and the Orquesta Nacional de España.
His presence is frequently requested to be part of the Jury in the main International Competitions: Tchaikovsky, Rubinstein, Marguerite Long, Van Cliburn, María Callas (President of the Jury), Hamamatsu, Viotti, Bolzano, London, Leeds, Scriabin, Dublin and Santander (of which he was President and Artistic Director). For 20 years he was Artistic Director and President of the jury of the José Iturbi International Piano Competition in Valencia (Spain).
He gives master classes in Europe, the United States, Asia and Australia, in Music Schools and Centers of important international prestige: Juilliard and Manhattan, New York; San Francisco; University of Texas at Austin (USA); Yamaha (Paris); Fribourg, Hannover, Schlitz, Stuttgart (Germany); Imola and Fiesole (Italy); Duszniki (Poland); Moscow; Shanghai, China; Hamamatsu (Japan); Brisbane, Australia; from 2007 several years at the Summer Academy of the Mozarteum in Salzburg (Austria).
Joaquín Soriano has been Professor of Piano at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid for about 35 years. He is a member of the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and the Institute of Spain. Among his merits are the Gold Medal of Arts, the French Order of Arts and Letters and the Medal of the City of Paris. He has also been awarded the title of the Official Order of Merit of the Republic of Lithuania. He is the adopted son of the city of Valencia.
In 2010, he received the Prize for the Greats of Music in the VI Edition of the Chamber Orchestra of Bari.
Currently many of his students are pursuing international careers as concert performers and, in turn, have teaching positions in important European, American and Japanese schools.
Since 2005 he collaborates with Eutherpe and in 2009, he was appointed Vice President of the Foundation.
