ACTIVITIES FOR THE WINNERS OF 2021 EDITION

Carles & Sofia International Piano Competition organizes TWO GALA CONCERTS for the winners of the GOLD HANDS and VICTORY AWARDS of each edition, together with other cultural activities.
The competition gives the winners the possibility to be well prepared for the Gala Concerts, as well as for the recordings of the CDs for the Victory Awardees. That is why all these activities are prepared for the following year.

These are the activities organized for the winners of the 2021 edition, Tribute to Rubinstein:

5th of JULY, 12 (Noon)
BARCELONA
VISIT TO JORQUERA PIANOS
,
the STEINWAY & SONS OFFICIAL DEALER FOR SPAIN, where they will enjoy a visit to the shop, as well as the workshop, where they rebuild old pianos.
The company Jorquera Pianos was established in 1853 by Ginés Jorquera. Nowadays is managed by Helena Jorquera who represents the fourth generation in front of the business and with the recent incorporation of the fifth generation, Óscar Ramón-Jorquera.


5th of JULY, 7 PM
BARCELONA
GALA CONCERT IN MONESTIR DE SANTA MARIA DE PEDRALBES

The beautiful cloister of the Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes will host the first GALA CONCERT of the winners of the competition in 2021. Winners of Gold Hands as well as Victory Awards will be performing their favourite pieces in this hidden gem in Barcelona.
Founded by Queen Elisenda de Montcada in 1327, the building is one of the best examples of Catalan Gothic architecture, both for the church and for the three-storey cloister, one of the largest and most harmonious in this style.

GIRONA
GALA CONCERT IN AUDITORI VIADER
: HAMMERKLAVIER INTERNATIONAL PIANO SERIES
The second gala concert of the winners of Carles & Sofia International Piano Competition 2021 edition will take place in the Auditori Viader of the Casa de Cultura, in Girona, in the Hammerklavier International Piano Series.
The Casa de Cultura was built between 1765 and 1769 and it shows great architectural beauty, highlighting its entrance as the most elaborate part. Throughout history, this building has been used for various purposes. Initially it was the House of Mercy and later also a Hospice. And so it was, until the middle of the 20th century, when it became the House of Culture.


7th of JULY, 11 AM
GIRONA
GUIDED TOUR TO THE OLD CITY OF GIRONA

The winners of the 2021 edition of the competition will enjoy a guided tour in the old part of Girona, with an official guide, in the company of Carles & Sofia. They will be visiting: the old neighborhood walk, Guild district, Jewish quarter, Cathedral square and walls.
And the guide will talk about history, current affairs, legends, “Game of Thrones”…
The highlights of Girona are rounded off by the impressive old Jewish Quarter or Call, with its beautiful streets and porticoed squares, and by the exuberant baroque spaces and Noucentisme-style buildings by architect Rafael Masó.



7th of JULY, 7 PM
GIRONA
HAMMERKLAVIER INTERNATIONAL PIANO SERIES: ANTONIN BONNET

Antonin Bonnet, one of the winners of the “Carles & Sofia Victory Award” will perform a concert in the piano series, with works by Mozart, Chopin and Brahms.
Founded in 2003 by Steinway Artists Carles & Sofia piano duo, the cycle has the aim to promote one of the greatest instruments of classical music and its repertoire, which represents one of the most interesting and vast in the history of music.
The project was born in Girona, but soon spread to Barcelona, with great acceptance by the public, who could see how pianists from different parts of the world could share their knowledge and artistic talent.



8th of JULY, 7 PM
GIRONA
HAMMERKLAVIER INTERNATIONAL PIANO SERIES: KENICHIRO KOJIMA

Kenichiro Kojima, another of the winners of the “Carles & Sofia Victory Award” will perform a concert in the piano series, with works by Bach, Brahms, Scriabin.
Founded in 2003 by Steinway Artists Carles & Sofia piano duo, the cycle has the aim to promote one of the greatest instruments of classical music and its repertoire, which represents one of the most interesting and vast in the history of music.
The project was born in Girona, but soon spread to Barcelona, with great acceptance by the public, who could see how pianists from different parts of the world could share their knowledge and artistic talent.



7th and 8th of JULY: ALL DAY RECORDINGS
The winners of “Carles & Sofia Victory Awards” will be recording their own CDs at the studios 44.1, in Girona, as part of the Victory Award.
Each CD, once recorded, will be digitally published under the label KNS Classical.
Jorquera Pianos will provide a beautiful full-grand Steinway & Sons for all the recordings.
